Production from the boots at Seeshaupt in
Germany for the nearby market proved lucrative enough for that company to expand their production after only about five years and in 1952 an extra factory in Munich seemed to be opened. By the end belonging to the 1950s, Martens and Funck decided to look beyond Germany to showcase their boots.

British shoe manufacturers Griggs besides saw an opportunity for the
with the cushioned only but were so sold on the idea that they bought patent rights to create the footwear in the united kingdom.

Indeed the boot we now recognise for the reason that classic Dr Martens is the modified British version, regarding it was Griggs who created the trademark yellow stitching together with some slight re-shaping in addition to coined the name
which then became a trademark name for that type of sole.

And for that reason it was that upon April 1st 1960 the boot known as style 1460 was blessed in Wollaston, near Wellingborough in Northamptonshire, renowned for their shoe industry. The vintage eight eyelets, Ox Body coloured, smooth leather
became iconic amongst youth cultures along with a very practical choice of footwear for many British workers who earned their living on their feet.

A decline in sales at the beginning of the 21st century saw the
cease production in the uk, exactly 43 years to the day after it began. The ceasing of production in england was however only short-term and in 2007 the actual factory at Wollaston yet again began to produce Doctor Martens boots, made towards the original UK specification and marketed since the 'Vintage' line.
